About the VP and CIO

Michael Casdorph

Dr. Michael Casdorph is vice president of information technology and chief information officer at Âé¶¹¹ú²úAV, where he leads the institution’s technology strategy, operations, and digital enablement across the university, including the Medical College of Georgia, the Dental College of Georgia, and campuses statewide. An accomplished technology executive with more than 35 years of experience, including nearly 30 years in higher education and more than 15 years in academic healthcare, he is recognized for aligning technology investments with institutional priorities, strengthening cybersecurity and operational resilience, and advancing innovation in support of teaching, research, and data-informed decision-making.

Since joining Âé¶¹¹ú²úAV in 2009, Dr. Casdorph has held a series of progressive leadership roles spanning academic technology, research technology, and enterprise information technology. He was named interim CIO in 2018 and appointed vice president of information technology and chief information officer in 2019. In addition to his university leadership responsibilities, he chairs the University System of Georgia CIO Council, reflecting his broader leadership and influence across the state’s higher education technology community.

Dr. Casdorph holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Marylhurst University, a master’s degree in educational technology from the University of South Carolina, and a doctorate in education from Georgia Southern University. He also completed the University System of Georgia Executive Leadership Institute and Columbia Business School’s Technology Leadership Institute. In 2021, he received the Georgia CIO ORBIE Award for education, government, and the public sector.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Casdorph values family life. He and his wife, Danene, are proud parents of Matthew, Madison, Kaitlyn, Kendel, Bailey, and Lottie, reflecting his commitment to balancing executive leadership with personal priorities.

Our Goals

The goal of IT is to make it easier for students, faculty, and staff to learn, teach, research, and work. We do this by engaging with the AU and AUHS community to determine their needs and give them the resources and tools they need to help them do their jobs. Our focus is on:

  • Advance teaching and learningthrough innovative and effective technologies, resources, and services.
  • Empower researchthrough innovative and effective technologies, resources, and services.
  • Provide robust, reliable, and trusted administrative systemsthat enable business processes and efficiencies through effective implementation of information technology.
  • Leverage IT risk management and information security practices to protect the confidentiality of our students, patients, faculty, and staff, and to reduce adverse impacts to the University.
  • Provision and operate efficient and effective shared IT infrastructure.
  • Enable IT governanceto foster transparency and optimize IT resources to achieve the University’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.
